Designing Your Picture Perfect Maryland Pool

pool designSummer is less than a month away, and you can definitely feel it in the elevated temperatures we’ve had this past week. Humid days reaching up to the 80s and 90s make many people want to take a dip in the pool, but public pools can be dirty and overcrowded. Having your own personal pool in the backyard gives you a great place to relax and cool off all summer long. Once you’ve made a decision to install a great new pool, you have to figure out the best design for your new backyard oasis. We can help with this at Rhine Landscaping, but there are a few things that you should consider first.

  • Landscaping and Hardscaping – Think about how you want your backyard to work. You shouldn’t necessarily plan your space around your pool; instead, plan your pool into your space. Consider the different hardscaping elements that you want in your backyard space and work with a contractor to figure out where a pool would fit best and whether or not the landscaping/hardscaping elements that you choose will look good with the pool. Plus, you can choose your materials for your pool based on your existing or new hardscaping.
  • Pick a shape – Everyone has different tastes. For those who like a classic, traditional look, a rectangular or circular pool is best. Some prefer to go the creative route and draw the shape themselves. Free form pools are great, but they take a little extra work to make sure that the hardscaping can work around them. Choosing your pool shape will also depend on your needs and whether you want extras like a diving board or hot tub add-on.
  • Choose your material – You should make a point to choose a material for the interior of your pool, as well as your patio. There are a few things that you should keep in mind when choosing the material for your pool design. If you’ve got children or know that children will be using your pool, you’ll want something especially slip proof like concrete (pavers for the pool deck). Tile is a popular choice for those who value aesthetics and have time for maintenance. One of the most durable pool surfaces available is the pebble finish. It’s also comfortable and family friendly, similar to concrete.
