The lawn: a quintessential element of the white-picket fenced American Dream. Whether you labor for hours watering yours or sit back and hope it stays looking nice, we have a few tips for you to help keep your lawn looking green this spring.
1) Get your rakes at the ready – they’re not only for fall. Raking will help you get rid of debris in your yard and control the thatch, which is the layer of dead turfgrass between the green vegetation and soil. More than ½ inch of thatch can negatively contribute to the health of your lawn.
2) Lime the Lawn: Grass grows best at a neutral pH. If you have a lot of moss plants in your yard, your soil may have an acid pH. You can bring it to a proper pH by liming the soil with a lawn spreader. Use a testing kit to measure the pH of your soil and to determine how much lime needs to be added per square foot.
3) Make it Fertile: Organically fertilize your soil to promote growth using a light amount of compost and mulch.
