Show your outdoor fireplace and other hardscaping elements some extra love for Valentine’s Day by keeping them properly maintained.

It doesn’t matter if the snow is falling and the flowers aren’t blooming, you should show your hardscaping some love year-round for maximum life and functionality! In regards to landscaping, we recently touched on tree maintenance and why it is best to prune your trees in the winter. Today, let Rhine Landscaping talk about how you can maintain your hardscaping features this Valentine’s Day to show your ultimate appreciation.

What is Hardscaping?

If you are familiar with the term landscaping, but aren’t too certain about what hardscaping is, let us help. Hardscaping is when hard surfaces like stone are implemented into your landscape to create beautiful, functional elements. Some examples of hardscaping are: driveways, patios, walkways, outdoor fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, outdoor grills, retaining walls and water features.

Your Outdoor Kitchen

If you have not already winterized your outdoor kitchen, you can show it some love this Valentine’s Day by paying close attention to the state of your countertops. If any part of your outdoor kitchen has been exposed to inclement weather or debris, be sure to clear it as soon as possible. It is also a good idea in the winter to seal granite countertops more often. In most cases, winterizing your outdoor kitchen to reduce the risk of frozen water lines and damaged appliances is recommended.

Your Outdoor Fireplace

Your outdoor fireplace is likely something you want to utilize year-round, since there is nothing quite as special as curling up next to a fire in the snow. When your fireplace isn’t in use though, it is a good idea to cover it so it stays dry and clear of rain/snow. Be sure to warm your outdoor fireplace up slowly and burn dry wood for cleanliness. If you don’t burn dry wood, it could result in creosote buildup that puts your outdoor chimney at high risk.
