This article from EzineArticles.com outlines the benefits to natural stone.

Natural stone is a great, affordable investment. It is durable – scratch resistant and smudge resistant – and has a long life span, meaning it will be around for a long, long time. And because it is so durable, natural stone is low maintenance. All it requires is a fresh seal after it has been laid in place and then the occasional sweeping after that. And don’t worry; sealing natural stone is an easy process that any do-it-yourself homeowner can tackle. Just sweep the stone free of debris. Wash with soap and water, and allow the stone to dry completely. Then apply the sealer according to the directions on the package. It will need to dry for 24 hours before you can walk on it.

You will probably spend more time choosing the type of natural rock to use in your yard than you ever will on maintenance. With choices including flagstone, limestone, granite, river rock, travertine, and more, you can certainly find any style to complete your landscaping design. The variety of colors and textures in these natural stones is endless.

Finally, a new natural stone patio, walkway, or retaining wall will add value to your home. Natural stone not only boosts your home’s aesthetic appeal, but also increases the real estate value of your property, as well.

  1. It was good how you pointed out that using natural stone for the landscaping is good because it is scratch resistant, smudge resistant, and has a long lifespan, therefore will be around for many years to come. I guess that is the reason why my mom has been trying to convince me to use this “landscape rock” for the next garden redecorating. Anyway, I will look into it a bit more to see what options there are in terms of rocks. Thank you for sharing.
